Day 17 in My Life at the Software Development Institute

A Day in My Life at the Software Development Institute: Day 17 (March 10, 2025)

Today marks my 17th day at the Software Development Institute. I woke up early in the morning and performed Saher (pre-dawn meal) before getting freshened up. Afterward, I headed downstairs to the dining area where my tiffin was waiting for me in the fridge. The fridge was so cold that the rice in my tiffin was freezing!

Since the lift is turned off during the night, I had to take the stairs, which meant I had to climb three floors. By the time I reached the dining area, I was exhausted, and my breathing was fast. The cold rice in my tiffin wasn’t something I could eat right away, so I had to come up with a solution. I plugged in my iron, turned it upside down, and placed my tiffin on top of it, using the wall for support. This way, I could use the heat to warm up my rice.

I let it sit for about 10–15 minutes while munching on some almonds that I had soaked the night before. After finishing the almonds, I checked the rice, and while the top layer was still cold, I figured the bottom might be warm enough to eat. So, despite the cold top layer, I dug into it. To my surprise, the rice was delicious, especially at the bottom. It was an amazing breakfast!

After eating, I drank some water and offered Namaz (prayers). Then, since I had very little time left to sleep, I quickly tidied up my room. For the past ten days, I’ve been alone in a two-sharing room, and my belongings had spread over my roommate’s bed. Since my roommate was expected to arrive around 6:30 or 7:00 AM, I wanted to clean his side of the room before he returned. I cleaned up his bed, table, and all the mess before going back to my bed.

I was about to take a nap when I received a message from my institute informing me that the classes would begin at 9:30 AM instead of the usual 7:30 AM. I was thrilled to have two extra hours of sleep, so I turned off my alarm and dozed off.

After about an hour, I received a call from my roommate asking where I was. I was still half-asleep, so I answered while still in bed. He told me he was on his way to the room. He ended up waking me up, and I realized that I wouldn’t be able to sleep again. So, I just checked my phone for a while and waited for him to arrive. By the time he walked in, it was already past 7:30 AM, and there was no chance of me going back to sleep.

I got ready for the institute and decided to call Rishika. Unfortunately, she didn’t pick up, and when I reached the institute, no one was there because I had arrived a bit early. My friends showed up shortly afterward, and I asked them about Rishika. They also hadn’t heard from her, and she was not answering anyone’s calls.

The class began at 9:30 AM, and we learned a bit about libraries in programming and how to print strings in different formats. The session lasted only 30 to 40 minutes, as our instructor had another class to attend. He gave us some practice questions to prepare for tomorrow’s test. We spent the rest of the class practicing those questions.

During the next session, we were expecting some important topics to be covered, but the teacher didn’t show up. We waited in the classroom for about half an hour, but when he didn’t arrive, we decided to leave. My friends and I went to the masjid for Zoher Namaz, and after that, I took a quick 30-minute nap.

At 2:30 PM, I decided to go back to class since I wanted to attend the last session for some final explanations. When I arrived, my friends were already waiting outside, but we were told that the teacher would not be coming. We hung around for a while, hoping the teacher might show up, but after some time, we decided to leave. On our way out, I met a classmate who was also staying behind in case the teacher showed up. We exchanged contact info so we could stay in touch if there were any updates.

After leaving the institute, my friend Manoj dropped me back to my PG. However, when I arrived at the building, I realized I didn’t have the keys to my room. I called my roommate, and he told me he had the keys and was still at the institute. So, I had to walk back to get them. After retrieving the keys, I finally made it back to my room.

The rest of the evening was dedicated to studying. I spent some time preparing for tomorrow’s test. I didn’t feel very focused, but I pushed myself to study. I had a brief craving for a Badam (almond) shake, but I resisted the temptation. I knew that if I indulged, it would not only waste my time but also upset my stomach, which I didn’t want before the night of studying.

Around Asr time, I went to the masjid for prayer. I didn’t drink water during Iftar, as I wanted to save time for studying. Instead, I had Rooh Afza in limited quantity and offered Maghrib Namaz. Afterward, I headed to a nearby restaurant to have biryani. I took a bottle of water with me, knowing I could drink it with my meal.

After finishing the biryani, I resisted the temptation to have the almond shake, knowing that it would disrupt my focus and digestion. I headed back to my PG, where I received a call from my roommate asking me to pick up some items. I stopped by the stationery store to buy a new notebook since my current one was nearly full. Then, I visited the grocery store to pick up some other items.

Once I returned to the PG, I had a little time to study before heading out again. I filled up my water bottle and didn’t get my tiffin, as I was preparing for Sahri with my roommates later. By 10 PM, I had managed to go through half of the questions given for tomorrow’s test, and I quickly skimmed through the remaining topics to ensure I wouldn’t forget them.

At the end of the day, I was satisfied with my productivity. I wrapped up my study session, checked my blog notifications, and then went to bed, ready to tackle tomorrow’s challenges.

Conclusion:

That’s a wrap for today! It was an eventful day full of little challenges and productive moments. I’ve learned to adapt quickly to changing schedules, and I’m staying focused on my studies. Tomorrow will be another interesting day, and I’m excited to see what it holds!
